Key Responsibilities of the Role
As a Food and Beverage Attendant, the primary responsibility is to assist in preparing and delivering top-tier services to customers across multiple areas of the business. - Prepared Work Area
- Preparation of mise-en-place (the process of preparing all ingredients and tools before cooking or service) and ensuring all areas are set up correctly.
- Regularly check that the restaurant and service areas, including the bar and conference spaces, are clean and tidy.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently, complying with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in stock takes and report any discrepancies promptly to the supervisor.
- Delivered Food Services
- Stay informed about menu items, food trends, and cooking methodologies to deliver an up-to-date experience for guests.
- Accurately take and enter guest orders, ensuring that their preferences are noted and respected.
- Provide attentive service, ensuring that guests’ food and drink orders are delivered to the table promptly and in accordance with the restaurant’s standards.
- Clear tables and ensure that the area remains clean and inviting.
- Facilitate billing and cash-ups, ensuring all transactions are accurate and compliant with company standards.
- Prepared and Delivered Beverage Services
- Stay knowledgeable about beverages, including cocktails and other drink trends, to offer recommendations and prepare drinks to guest specifications.
- Accurately take and place beverage orders, ensuring the highest quality of drink preparation.
- Ensure all drinks are served in accordance with customer expectations, and maintain a clean and organized bar area.
- Perform daily stock counts and update beverage stock sheets at the end of each shift.
- Customer Engagement
- Greet guests with a warm, welcoming attitude, and engage them professionally throughout their visit.
- Understand customer preferences and provide personalized service.
- Address any customer complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner, escalating issues when necessary.
- Educate guests about the venue’s offerings, loyalty programs, and special promotions, creating opportunities to upsell products.
Skills and Competencies
The role demands a balance of technical skills and interpersonal competencies. Food and beverage product knowledge is essential, as is the ability to operate various types of equipment safely and effectively. - A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent national qualification within the NQF framework.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a customer-facing environment, ideally as a waiter, bartender, or similar role in food and beverage service.
- Previous experience in hospitality, particularly in a fast-paced environment, is highly advantageous.
