Minimum Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following essential requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) with Mathematics and Science.
- A Trade Certificate in Diesel Electrical Fitting.
- At least 4 to 6 years of practical experience working on electric locomotives, specifically GE UM10B, U26C Diesel, and 8E locomotives.
- Proven knowledge and experience with both electrical and fitter equipment.
- A valid medical certificate or the ability to obtain one is essential to ensure the candidate is fit for duty.
Required Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Sound knowledge of electrical wiring, an essential part of locomotive maintenance.
- Familiarity with Cat 35 12B and GE 7FDL 12-cylinder engines.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and fitter diagrams with accuracy.
- Experience with electronic systems and PLC operating systems will be a definite advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for collaboration and effective team engagement.
- Basic computer literacy, particularly in MS Office, is required for reporting and administrative tasks.

- Reporting any faults or mechanical issues to the relevant Foreman without delay.
- Supervising and providing direction to subordinates, including task delegation.
- Ensuring all legal appointments and inspections are conducted regularly and in compliance with required standards.
- Completing all relevant SAP job cards promptly and accurately.
