Teacher/Aftercare Assistant Job Description

The Teacher/Aftercare Assistant will support daily classroom activities during the school day and take the lead in managing aftercare duties in the afternoons. This dual role requires someone who is attentive, patient, and dedicated to the well-being and development of children between the ages of 3 and 6.

Core Responsibilities

Morning Duties (Teacher Assistant Role)

  • Assist class teachers with lesson preparation and classroom setup.
  • Provide individual attention to learners during learning sessions.
  • Monitor and guide children during free-play and structured educational activities.
  • Support children with toilet routines and hygiene practices.
  • Prepare learning materials and assist with displays and classroom organisation.
  • Help manage classroom discipline in alignment with school policies.
  • Observe and report any emotional, behavioral, or academic concerns to teachers.

Afternoon Duties (Aftercare Assistant Role)

  • Supervise learners after school hours in a safe, engaging environment.
  • Organize and facilitate age-appropriate recreational and educational activities.
  • Ensure learners are fed and assist during snack time if required.
  • Maintain discipline and safety during indoor and outdoor play.
  • Provide a calm environment during rest or quiet time.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians during pick-up regarding their child’s day.
