Are you a passionate graduate looking to kickstart your career in Human Resources? Alfa Laval Middle East and Africa, a global leader in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling technologies, is offering a fantastic internship opportunity at their Johannesburg office located in Kempton Park.
This 12-month internship is more than just a learning opportunity—it’s a stepping stone into the professional HR world with one of the most reputable companies in the region.
A Dynamic and Rewarding Work Environment
Alfa Laval is committed to excellence in service and customer experience. The company is well-known for encouraging innovation, collaboration, and personal development. For any graduate interested in people management and organisational development, this internship is the perfect place to gain real-world HR exposure.
Interns will not be on the sidelines. Instead, they will be immersed in key HR functions, working alongside experienced professionals who are ready to mentor and guide them through practical responsibilities.
A Closer Look at the Role
The HR Intern will support core human resource functions. One of the major tasks includes managing the onboarding and offboarding process. This means the intern will assist in screening CVs, scheduling interviews, handling job advertisements, and gathering necessary employment documents. The goal is to ensure that all new employees are welcomed with a professional and friendly approach.
Interns will also play an active role in employee exits—preparing clearance forms and managing exit documentation. Another important part of this internship is the coordination of engagement activities like family meetings, career expos, and internal events, helping to create a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Learning Through Skills Development
The HR Intern will not only engage with people management but also get a solid grounding in skills development and training administration. Responsibilities include assisting with the compilation of the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR), organising training sessions, and ensuring all learning activities are recorded in the training register.
Additionally, the intern will help with financial administration related to training—such as allocating training costs to appropriate departments and updating the training matrix. This will provide valuable insight into HR’s role in budgeting and compliance.
Registration on industry-related portals like MERSETA and YES, as well as evaluating training providers, will further broaden the intern’s experience. The HR Intern will also get a chance to contribute to Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects—an important element of Alfa Laval’s community engagement.
What Does It Take to Qualify?
This internship is designed for individuals who are proactive, eager to learn, and have a genuine interest in HR. To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Matric certificate
- Have a BCom in Human Resources or BCom Honours in Industrial Psychology
- Be computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office
- Possess strong communication skills—both verbal and written
Additional qualifications like a Services Seta Facilitator Development (SFD) certificate would be advantageous.
The ideal intern is someone who values punctuality, integrity, and professionalism. Being able to work independently, take initiative, and adapt quickly are also key characteristics that Alfa Laval values in its team members.
Application Deadline and Duration
This is a 12-month internship, giving the selected candidate a full year to grow and contribute meaningfully. Interested candidates must apply before May 30, 2025. That’s just around the corner—so act quickly and submit your application to be considered.
What sets Alfa Laval apart is its commitment to nurturing young talent. This internship goes beyond admin work—it offers mentorship, responsibility, and real contributions to the business. It is perfect for someone who wants to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting while also developing new skills on the job.
Interns will be exposed to various HR systems, compliance standards, and project management tasks—making them well-rounded and job-ready at the end of the programme.
