Position Overview
The Sub Unit Head: Children’s Services Programme will lead, develop, manage, and oversee the implementation of all children’s services across the City of Johannesburg. This includes designing and coordinating programs for children aged 0 to 18 years and ensuring these programs comply with all relevant legislative frameworks, acts, and policies.
Key to the role will be managing the full cycle of children’s programs, including development, implementation, monitoring, and assessment. Key Responsibilities
As the Sub Unit Head of the Children’s Services Programme, you will be responsible for the following key areas:
- Leadership and Programme Development:
- Lead and coordinate city-wide children’s services.
- Ensure the alignment of children’s programs with legislative frameworks.
- Implement performance management policies for efficient service delivery.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

- Human Resource Management:
- Facilitate HR matters, including staff management, training, and performance evaluation.
- Reporting and Evaluation:
- Compile and submit regular reports on program performance.
- Evaluate the success of programs and make necessary adjustments.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for the role of Sub Unit Head: Children’s Services Programme, you must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- Educational Requirements:
- A completed Grade 12 qualification.
- A Degree in Child Development, Education, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field at NQF level 7.
- A postgraduate degree will be an added advantage.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in child development, specifically in the design and management of programs for children aged 0 to 18 years.
- At least 7 to 9 years of experience in the Social Development field, with 6 years in a management role.
- Proven experience in program development, monitoring, and assessment.
- Other Requirements:
- A valid code 8 driver’s license.
- Strong computer literacy (MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Excellent professional communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong skills in financial management, project planning, and report writing.
