The Role of an Electrician UG, C3

As an Electrician UG, C3, the primary responsibility will be to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on electrical systems in compliance with established safety regulations. The role will require a high level of skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, ensuring all electrical systems are functional and meet safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

The Electrician UG, C3 will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment and machinery to ensure maximum availability and reliability. This includes:

1. Safe Maintenance and Repair: Ensuring that all equipment is maintained and repaired safely, keeping it operational and minimizing downtime.
2. Engineering Technical Compliance: Ensuring all engineering procedures align with the relevant standards and regulations, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
3. Inspection and Documentation: Performing regular inspections of electrical systems, documenting the maintenance, repairs, and inspections on checklists and job cards for compliance purposes.
4. Fault Detection and Repair: Identifying faults within the electrical systems and performing repairs with minimal supervision.
5. Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are properly stored after use.
6. Risk Assessments: Conducting appropriate Risk Assessments (RA) before carrying out any work, ensuring tasks are performed in a safe and controlled manner.
7. Shift and Overtime Work: Being prepared to work shifts, overtime, and standby duties as required, ensuring the smooth running of the operations at Kriel Colliery.

Key Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for the role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Electrical Trade Test Certificate: A recognized qualification is essential for this position, validating expertise in the electrical trade.
2. Educational Qualifications:
   • Internal Candidates: Grade 12 with Mathematics (Not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol in these subjects, and two N2 trade-related subjects according to MQA guidelines.
   • External Candidates: Grade 12 with Mathematics (Not Literacy) and Science, with a minimum E symbol and four N2 trade-related subjects as per MQA guidelines.
3. Knowledge of Safety Regulations: A strong understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and safety systems, with a focus on maintaining high safety standards in the workplace.
4. Experience: At least two years post-trade experience as an Electrician, preferably in underground coal mining operations.
5. Driver’s License and Transport: A valid K53 driver’s license and own transport are required for this role.
6. Health and Fitness: Applicants must be in possession of or be able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness before commencing work.
7. Other Required Skills:
   • Knowledge of high-tension (HT) systems, reticulation drawings, and various underground electrical systems (such as Gate end boxes, Genwest/Dimako, and Microload).
   • Proficiency in the operation of water pumps and jet fans.
   • Experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
   • Flame Proofing and Gas Testing knowledge will be advantageous.
8. Advantageous Experience:
   • Knowledge of HT switching and risk management courses.
   • Experience working with equipment such as Guduza, Peflo, and Microload systems.
   • Safety and Risk Management Courses will be beneficial.
