These positions—General Worker and Assistant Contract Administrator—are available for qualified and experienced candidates who are passionate about contributing to South Africa’s skills development and public service.
1. General Worker Position (Reference Number: TA-48)
The role of a General Worker is ideal for someone with a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to keep operations running smoothly behind the scenes. This is a junior-level contract position that calls for multitasking, attention to detail, and excellent customer service.

- Administering meetings and communicating important dates to stakeholders.
- Operating the switchboard by answering calls, transferring them appropriately, and taking messages.
- Managing reception duties such as accepting and dispatching documents and logging service issues.
- Keeping the office, kitchen, and restrooms clean and hygienic, including regular fridge cleaning and dustbin emptying.
- Preparing the boardroom for meetings, ensuring it is tidy and well-equipped with water, glasses, and cutlery.
- Mentoring and coaching interns to help them understand switchboard operations and encourage teamwork.
Requirements
- Applicants must have at least a Matric qualification, with an added advantage given to those holding an administration or secretarial certificate. A minimum of three years’ experience as a switchboard operator or receptionist is essential, with at least one year spent in a cleaning or housekeeping role. Strong communication skills, computer literacy, time management, and customer service knowledge are all important for this role.
2. Assistant Contract Administrator Position (Reference Number: TA-49)
Also a junior-level position, the Assistant Contract Administrator role is suited to someone with a qualification in Human Resource Management (HRM) or a related field and experience in administrative tasks. This contract is set for more than three years, offering a stable and rewarding path in the public sector.
Key Responsibilities
This role supports the TETA Chamber’s administrative and contract management duties. Key performance areas include:
- Assisting both internal and external stakeholders and maintaining positive customer relations.
- Handling financial administration tasks such as maintaining a claims register and preparing payment requisitions.
- Supporting contract management by arranging couriers, verifying qualifications, and uploading contract deliverables.
- Ordering stationery, coordinating travel, arranging meetings, and filing reports according to standard procedures.
- Managing documentation both manually and electronically, recording all correspondences, and distributing them efficiently.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification (M+3) in HRM or an equivalent field is required, along with at least two years of administrative experience. Knowledge of SETA, public sector, or ETD environments will be beneficial. Applicants should be well-versed in South African legislation including the Skills Development Act and Public Finance Management Act. Strong computer, communication, and administrative skills are vital, as well as a willingness to travel and work overtime when necessary.
Employment Equity and Application Process
Both positions are designated for Employment Equity candidates, with preference given to African males to meet TETA’s current EE targets. Applicants are encouraged to have any foreign qualifications assessed by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
How to Apply
Interested individuals should submit a detailed CV and cover letter via www.teta.org.za before the closing date on Wednesday, 04 June 2025. If applicants do not receive feedback within 21 days of the deadline, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
These positions offer more than just employment—they are a chance to contribute to South Africa’s education and training sectors while gaining valuable experience in administrative and public service roles.
