Job Purpose
As a Host at Sun International, your main role is to greet and welcome guests to the restaurant and ensure they have an excellent dining experience. You will manage reservations, monitor the dining area, and support a smooth front-of-house operation in line with Sun International’s high standards.
Key Performance Areas
1. Prepared Work Area
- Set up mise-en-place and place settings for service
- Check cleanliness and equipment functionality
- Answer the restaurant telephone and manage reservations
- Follow all health, safety, and hygiene regulations
2. Hosting Duties
- Welcome guests and manage their bookings
- Seat guests and monitor available tables
- Estimate wait times and manage the guest waiting list
- Explain menu items and recommend food and beverages
- Communicate respectfully with kitchen staff regarding special requests
- Clear tables after meals and provide billing when needed
- Upsell promotional food and beverage items
3. Cashiering Services
- Handle billing transactions and reconcile payments
- Manage and report on float variances
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and provide documentation for audits
4. Customer Engagement
- Greet all guests warmly and professionally
- Identify customer needs and provide relevant information on facilities and promotions
- Handle complaints and suggestions, escalating issues when needed
Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 preferred, or Grade 10 with at least 2 years of relevant experience
Experience
- 2 years in a customer service environment
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong verbal communication in English
- Numerical and transaction-handling skills
- Knowledge of food and beverage service, menus, and upselling techniques
- Basic computer and cashiering skills
- Familiarity with using and maintaining restaurant equipment
