Job Overview: What Does an Insurance Administrator Do?
In this role, you will provide specialist support in underwriting, administration, and risk management related to corporate insurance policies. You will work closely with senior managers and the Head of Corporate Insurance to manage policies and claims both locally and across ABSA’s international offices (Africa, US, UK, Beijing, Prague).
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Management (40%): Building strong working relationships across the insurance industry and internal teams. You’ll be the go-to person for queries and claims resolution.
- Insurance Risk Management (40%): Overseeing claims management frameworks, ensuring compliance with local and international insurance regulations, and helping manage annual insurance renewals.
- Reporting (20%): Preparing reports, presentations, and dashboards for senior management and committees.
You will also be responsible for identifying process improvements, assisting with audits, and driving a culture of compliance within the insurance team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance & Risk Management, Financial Management, or related fields.
- At least 5 to 10 years of experience in insurance or risk management.
- A good understanding of insurance policies, underwriting, claims management, and insurance contracts.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Membership or progress towards membership in the Insurance Institute of South Africa (advantageous).

- Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
