The municipality is offering three (3) internship positions within its Budget & Treasury Office, aimed at equipping young professionals with essential skills in finance, taxation, risk management, and auditing.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Educational Qualification
    • A recently acquired Degree or National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in one of the following fields:
      • Accounting
      • Taxation
      • Cost & Management Accounting
      • Risk Management
      • Auditing
    • The qualification must not be older than four (4) years.
  2. Language Proficiency
    • Applicants must have the ability to communicate fluently in both isiZulu and English.
  3. Understanding of Local Government
    • A good understanding of local government protocols is essential.
  4. Age Requirement
    • Candidates must be between the ages of 19 and 35.

Practical Training & Learning Areas

Interns selected for this program will receive structured training and practical experience across various aspects of municipal budget and treasury operations. The training will focus on:

  • Municipal Budgeting
    Interns will gain insights into how local government budgets are prepared and managed to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Treasury Office Operations
    Exposure to cash flow management, municipal finance legislation, and the financial policies that govern local government entities.
  • Finance Management Skills
    The program will enhance the interns’ competencies in financial planning, risk management, taxation, and financial auditing.

Upon successful completion of the internship, candidates will have acquired valuable industry experience and a recognized qualification in Municipal Finance Management, boosting their employment prospects.

Preference will be given to applicants from the Maphumulo Local Municipality area.
