The National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) plays a vital role in maintaining and disseminating national measurement standards. As a member of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition’s (the dtic) Technology Innovation Institutes family, NMISA supports South Africa’s Quality Infrastructure by ensuring compliance with international measurement systems.
Purpose of the SCM and Logistics Internship
This internship is structured to provide comprehensive training in supply chain management (SCM) and logistics. Successful candidates will be engaged in clerical, administrative, and secretarial duties, contributing to the efficient operation of NMISA’s SCM section. The role focuses on ensuring adherence to SCM policies, processes, and legislation while supporting internal divisions with effective service delivery.
Roles and Responsibilities
Interns will be expected to carry out the following tasks under supervision:
- Copying and scanning tender documents
- Filing and managing SCM documents meticulously
- Preparing and organising meetings
- Capturing data on NMISA’s systems and updating files
- Uploading tender documents to NMISA’s website
- Coordinating and following up on expired supplier documents (Tax Clearance, BBBEE certificates, SBD forms)
- Performing help desk functions for SCM queries
- Tracking supplier invoices, statements, and orders
- Managing supplier payment processes, including invoice registration and forwarding to Finance Officers
- Receiving and verifying delivered goods
- Any other SCM-related tasks as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for the NMISA SCM and Logistics Internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A three-year tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong attention to detail with analytical and quality orientation skills
- Excellent communication and report-writing capabilities
- Self-motivated, dependable, ethical, and cooperative attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
