Key Responsibilities of the Role

The selected applicant will be responsible for the following key duties:

Developing and Implementing Safety Policies

  • Establish and enforce health and safety procedures within the organization.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to ensure compliance.

Health & Safety Inspections

  • Carry out safety inspections on construction sites.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective measures.
  • Manage the company’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) system.

Training and Compliance

  • Provide training and guidance to employees on safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.

Record Keeping and Security Management

  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and training activities.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments.
  • Manage the company’s security contract.

Collaboration with Management

  • Work closely with management to promote a culture of workplace safety.
  • Handle sensitive safety-related information with confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a senior or supervisory position.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Expertise in ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Additional Certifications & Skills

  • Proficiency in using health and safety management software.
  • Professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, SAMTRAC) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the water and wastewater industry is an added advantage.
  • Qualified in HSE representative and first aider level 2.
