Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following essential qualifications and skills:

Educational Qualification

  • A Grade 12 Certificate is required.

Professional Certification & Experience

  • A Basic Traffic Officer Diploma (issued by an approved Traffic Training Centre).
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Traffic Officer.

Licenses & Certifications

  • A valid Code B driver’s license.
  • A Firearms Competency Certificate in terms of the Firearm Control Act.
  • Computer Literacy to handle administrative and reporting tasks.
  • Proof of registration as an authorized Officer (Registration Certificate with an infrastructure number from the National Department of Transport/RTMC).

Competency Requirements

In addition to the minimum qualifications, candidates must meet the following competency requirements:

  • Peace Officer Certification:
    • Must be eligible to obtain a competency certificate for appointment as a Peace Officer.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • The successful candidate must comply with competency and registration requirements under the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.
  • Medical Fitness:
    • A medical certificate is required as proof that the candidate is physically fit to undergo strenuous exercises.
  • Driving Skills:
    • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and will be subjected to a driving evaluation/assessment.
  • Availability for Overtime:
    • Must accept that from time to time, overtime work (involuntary and voluntary) may be required.

Key Performance Areas

As a Traffic Officer at Impendle Local Municipality, your role will involve a variety of responsibilities, including:

Law Enforcement:

  • Enforce road safety and traffic regulations, including by-laws.

Traffic Control:

  • Control and direct traffic at roadways, intersections, school points, accident scenes, funeral escorts, and other public functions.

Legal Enforcement:

  • Issue summonses to offenders and execute warrants of arrest.

Public Safety Coordination:

  • Work on law enforcement duties related to public safety, traffic control, and free flow of traffic.

Area Monitoring:

  • Patrol local areas to ensure road safety and address any inappropriate situations.
